This is my approach to teaching and learning with regards to writing skills for students.
As with the majority of my programmes, I like to utilise mnemonics (memory devices) to assist students with the steps,
A.C.T.
A.C.T - was created in 2020 to assist students, senior students at the time, to assist them to break down the actual assessment task, as many struggle to get to the nitty gritty of the task requirement.
B.O.W.E.R
B.O.W.E.R. is the basis of the programme, utilising BOWER as the mnemonic tool to assist with steps.
B.I.A.S
B.I.A.S. – Underpins the W - WRITING element of BOWER by breaking down the focus of the creative skills to consider when writing.
C.O.R.P.S
CORPS (as in army) – Underpins the E - EDIT & PROOFREAD of BOWER in order to break down the process and explicitly teach the DRAFTING PROCESS
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW PLACEMAT
Teachers can download the placemat which shows alignment to educational concepts from the products area.
Underpinning this process are explicit teaching of the following elements:

Through action research carried out during 2020, the additional A.C.T element was introduced. You will find this further down the page.
The A.C.T element of the writing process was created and developed in order to assist senior students in their understanding of how to approach the task itself, before considering how they might complete it.
As the B.O.W.E.R. elements are for explicit writing process, my suggestion would be to build students understanding of the writing process and develop assessment task breakdown A.C.T. as separate elements. Clearly defining the process of task break down (A.C.T) and then task completion approach. B.O.W.E.R Writing C.O.R.P.S.
As with all my programmes, the use of mnemonics in the process is important.
PLEASE NOTE - I create programmes for my own practice, in order to construct skeletal approaches that I am then able to elaborate and define as I build on skills for both myself and my students.
Over time, I have found that this method of approach works well for me in fine-tuning my teaching and learning practice.
Feel free to download the resources I have created for my programmes, and I appreciate your reference to my work if/when utilising.

A.C.T. is an additional, element of BOWER writing programme. ACT can be utilised for the sole purpose of explicit teaching of deconstructing assessment tasks, or as an initial approach to the task from pre planning to final draft.
A.C.T was completed through action research in 2020.
B.O.W.E.R. B.I.A.S Writing C.O.R.P.S is a writing programme, utilised to assist students in gaining an understanding of writing processes, as well as the importance of authors tools, which includes editing and proofreading skills, when writing - in any subject.
Be aware that although each school / teacher will use different metalanguage, the skills for writing are the same..
I love to use mnemonics (memory devices), when structuring programmes, in order to assist in the learning process...

An alignment to the National Curriculum (Australia) document is also available.
B. - Brainstorming
Brainstorming is simply a term used to describe the generation of ideas.
Often you are given tasks with topics you may or may not be interested in.
Learning how to develop ideas – BRAINSTORM – can help you to complete your tasks.
O. -Organising
Organising your ideas into the required assessment structure comes next.
E. Editing & Proofreading
The Editing & Proofreading process also has a set system. The mnemonic (memory device) is C.O.R.P.S.
The following are supporting documents . These are some of the original approaches of the programme as I progressed through development.
Below are a selection of old prompts. You may like to draw on some of these with your students, utilising them as additional prompts to support the more updated elements.
