This method utilises the senior syllabus requirements and can be aligned to the Problem Solving 1 approach
Problem Solving Approach 3:
Mathematical Conventions:
On this page you will find a breakdown of concepts including:
Have you ever completed a mathematical problem and found that your answer was different from the persons next to you?
Mathematitians realised the need for mathematical conventions in order to keep consistency in results.
ORDER OF OPERATIONS is a MATHS CONVENTION!
Those lazy, crazy mathematitians weren't so crazy after all!
When you move into the higher levels of primary education, and into high school, the foundations you have learned in maths at primary school are utilised in order to complete more complex problems. Along with the more complex problems are more issues around agreed upon conventions.
ORDER OF OPERATIONS is an important convention to remember. Just as you must remember a capital letter and punctuation when writing (English conventions), mathematics also has rules that we must follow.

Utilising the reading strategies enables a teacher to explicitly teach and demonstrate the links across subject areas.
Problem Solving is not just a mathematical issue!
I have used these processes with students in primary, linking across subject areas.
If you keep your metalanguage and process consistent, you might like to create your own approach using the same, generic, elements.
APPROACH 2 - aligned to senior syllabus requirements
APPROACH 3 -
A.C.E.D approach to problem solving...currently under development
Linking to the senior syllabus expectations. I"ve created a bookmark which also notes how you might connect across subject areas.
Once again, this is just my take on generic elements.
When it comes to setting out expectations, this will be directly linked to the expectations and approaches of individual teachers and or schools.
